  • Excerpts from Core Knowledge recommended books (For example: Alice in Wonderland)
  • Chapter books (class, small groups and individual reading)
  • Spelling, grammar, and vocabulary development
  • The Writing Process; narrative stories, imaginative stories, journals, descriptive, research

 

Mathematics

  • Number and Operations
  • Algebra

 

Social Studies

  • Maps
  • Canada
  • Rivers of the World

 

Science

  • Earth in the Universe, Earth Systems: structure and processes (Sun, Moon, Earth, etc.)
  • Plants

 

Technology

  • Chrome books for typing instruction, research, and math practice

SECOND TRIMESTER

English/Literacy

  • Reading strategies (cause and effect, summarization)
  • Ancient myths, fables, folktales, fantasy, fairy tales
  • Chapter books (class, small groups and individual reading)
  • Spelling, grammar, and vocabulary development
  • The Writing Process continued; imaginative stories, research,

       journals, etc.

 

Mathematics

  • Multiplication and division
  • Measurement

 

Social Studies

  • Ancient Rome
  • The Vikings

 

Science

 

  •     Structures and functions of Living Organisms: The Human Body: muscular, skeletal, nervous systems, ear, eyes
  •     Light and Sound
  •     Force and Motion
  •     Energy: Conservation and Transfer 
  •     Matter:  Properties and change

  • The Writing Process continued; persuasive and explanatory pieces, more research, biographies, journals, etc.
